Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City a fortnight back, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in P17 as his team ran a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he rotated at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese spun out over the exit kerbs before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending corner before the final bend on to the pit straight.
The veteran finished practice in P19, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's car P3, 0.619secs behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
