In a surprising crossover event that challenges conventional predictions, the game developer has revealed an in-game collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event operates from November 25 through December 22, providing no-cost additional story content for Shadows players.

Strange Adventure Revealed

According to the formal announcement, "A strange encounter leads characters Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh mission, where rumors of prohibited practices and fearsome metamorphoses resonate through the shadows." The narrative presents a "strangely dressed woman named Ada" who tasks the pair with journeying into the Gemstone Grotto—a key location from Attack on Titan—to save her companion from a secret cult.

The adventure focuses on "bizarre trials and a monstrous enemy" and is available to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Iconic Settings and Changes

The preview features the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This important location was earlier where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through ages. The teaser concludes with a powerful moment showing a character, likely the hostage, changing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Exclusive Items and Additional Material

Players who successfully complete the mission will acquire an unique katana together with multiple objects secreted throughout the area in secret chests. The update also includes purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:

• Titan-based attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa attire for Naoe
• Unique arms
• Survey Corps mount

Newest Free Story Update

This release also introduces the game's third free story addition, titled "A Puzzlement." This playful quest partners Naoe and Yasuke as they trade characteristic abilities: Naoe reveals a performative version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-fatal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Mystery" also contains a new environmental puzzle that may finally clarify some unanswered questions from the main storyline.

Previous Japanese Animation Collaborations

This represents hardly the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with popular anime properties. The series earlier included a 2020 cross-promotional story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla informally included a quest that unmistakably referenced the popular series One-Punch Man.
